The Story Behind Wilco
The Wilco Group name is a tribute to the US military and its veterans, with “Wilco” being short for “will comply”, a phrase that embodies confirmation and action. Our founder’s personal connection to the military runs deep, having grown up on Navy bases as part of a family with a rich military heritage. Janis’ father is a 30-year US Navy combat-wounded veteran who served two tours in Vietnam on Patrol Boats Riverine (PBRs) in the Mekong Delta. Retiring as a Master Chief Operations Specialist (MCPO/E9-OS), he instilled in her the values of discipline, leadership, and analysis, which she now applies to Wilco Group.
The military legacy extends to her paternal grandfather, a World War II Navy Seabee who exemplified the “can do” attitude that defines our company’s approach. The Seabees’ motto, “SEABEES CAN DO,” resonates with our founder, who draws inspiration from her family’s history of perseverance and sacrifice. This strong work ethic and commitment to getting the job done, no matter how difficult, are at the heart of Wilco Group’s mission and values.
